I started fishing at 5 years old and have never stopped. Fishing tournaments for over 15 years took me to many of the great fishing locations, and increased my fishing knowledge. After retiring from a 31 year career as a Firefighter I continue to guide the Door County area of Wisconsin. This area has been called "America's Best Fishing Spot", and has trophy walleye, smallmouth bass, northern pike, and musky, as well as the salmon and trout of Lake Michigan, and keeps me really busy!
I have always been active in teaching others to fish with seminars on bass and walleye and running many kid's fishing programs. I now have several grandkids and spend a lot of time with them out on the water.
Who is your sponsoring dealer?
Mr. Outboards Watersports Marine in Depere, WI.
How many years have you been on the Lund Pro-Staff?
Since 1988.
What's the highlight of your fishing career so far?
There are so many when one has a long career in fishing and it's hard to pick just one. High on the list has to be qualifying for the MWC World Walleye Championships 3 times and getting my twentieth Lund Pro-V last year.
How long have you been fishing?
My Dad started me and my brother off fishing at 4 and 5 years old. It really helps when you live in an area with such great fishing.
What inspired you to become a Lund Pro-Staff?
That's a very long story. It started on a fishing trip with one of the best outdoor writers, Dave Otto. He convinced me that I was a good enough fisherman and would be a good representative for the local Lund dealer. The rest is history of over 20 years.
Can you tell us the largest fish you have ever caught?
My biggest fish to date is a 37 1/2 pound King Salmon caught from a 16 foot Lund. What a battle!
Where do you mostly fish and what tournaments can we see you in this season?
I do all of my guiding in Door County, Wisconsin which is a great place to be as a guide. You can see me at the AYA Green Bay Tournament as tournament director. I will fish several local tournaments as well.
What is the best fishing tip or advice that you ever received?
Always use the best equipment you can and take care of it.
In what ways are you involved in the angling community?
I have always been very active in helping others understand fishing techniques. From doing 6 to 10 seminars per year to running a "Kids Fishing Day" each year for the past 26 years. I have been the tournament director of the AYA Tournament in Green Bay for the past 2 years. I am also involved with Sturgeon Bay's Captains and Guides Association, and am the Chairman of Sturgeon Bay's Harbor Commission. Along with that I have a fishing report that airs on 5 radio stations daily.
Pick five words to describe yourself.
Leader, Promotor, Knowledgable, Trusting, Friendly
What is the most ridiculous thing you've ever bought?
According to my wife, a little yellow hot rod. I thought it was nice.
What trait do you admire in people?
When giving out fishing information, that it be accurate.
What was the best year of your life?
1988- I got my first Lund Pro-V.
What's your worst habit?
Maybe, just stretching the size of my fish just a little.
What's your favorite model of Lund to fish out of? Why?
My Lund 2075 Pro-V. After 20 Pro-Vs, I can say this is the best one ever. It is balanced perfectly for great handling in any condition and the interior is designed with the serious fisherman in mind. It's a fishing machine.
Anything else you would like to say to our entire staff at Lund Boats?
